Europe installed more battery storage in 2025 than ever before, and utility scale projects now lead the market. Hiring for them means working across very different national markets at once.

SolarPower Europe reported 36 GWh of new battery storage installed in Europe in 2025, a rise of 48 per cent on the year before and the twelfth consecutive year of growth. Europe's operational battery capacity passed 100 GWh for the first time, and utility scale batteries delivered more than half of new installations.
The same report expects annual installations to exceed 50 GWh in 2026 and reach 138 GWh by 2030. Each step up in volume adds development, construction, commissioning and operations work, often in markets where few people have delivered storage before.
Revenue models, grid codes, permitting and employment law differ from country to country. Capacity markets in Poland, tenders in Italy, merchant and tolling structures in Germany and fast frequency markets in the Nordics each reward different experience. A Development Director who has succeeded in one market may need local partners and language skills to succeed in another.
We help clients decide which roles must be local and which can be regional, and where to find people who have done the work in the target market.
Many businesses start with a regional leadership team and add country managers as pipelines mature. The common risk is hiring a country lead before the business has decided how much autonomy that person will have. Settle that first, then recruit.
Skills pressure is not new. In 2022 the European Institute of Innovation and Technology launched the European Battery Academy, estimating that around 800,000 workers across the battery value chain would need training or reskilling by 2025. Storage owners compete for some of the same engineering talent.
