Skills England estimated that clean energy employed 232,000 people across the UK in 2025. Its August 2026 assessment projects the 31 priority occupations identified in the Clean Energy Jobs Plan to grow by 63,000, or 71 per cent, between 2025 and 2030, and judges half of those occupations to be in critical or elevated demand.
The government expects clean energy to bring 400,000 extra jobs by 2030 and reports that entry level roles in most clean energy occupations pay 23 per cent more than the same occupations in other sectors, a sign of competition for people.

This is STORIQ analysis, based on our searches and the projects we track: grid connection management, high voltage commissioning, owner side Project Directors with storage delivery experience, and commercial leaders who can structure tolls and floors. On the Talent Index we link each of these to recent verified developments.
Plan hires against project stages rather than vacancies. Widen searches to adjacent sectors such as networks, renewables and data centres, and invest in the training that closes the gap. Be clear about technical responsibility, which attracts experienced people more reliably than pay alone. And move quickly: strong candidates rarely wait.
