There is no single market rate for a BESS Project Director. Pay depends on the size and stage of the projects, the risk the role carries and where it is based. This guide explains the factors and how to benchmark them honestly.

Many salary pages publish a figure with no source and no date. We only publish benchmarks we can cite, and we say when we do not have them. Where we hold sourced data it appears in our market value tool and on the Talent Index, with the source and basis shown.
For a general reference point in the UK, the Office for National Statistics publishes earnings by occupation in its Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. It does not separate battery storage, so treat it as context rather than a benchmark for this role.
Scale and complexity: a single 50 MW site and a multi site portfolio in construction carry very different responsibility. Stage: directors who have taken projects through energisation and commissioning are scarcer than those who have managed construction only. Contract model: owner side, EPC side and integrator side roles are paid differently for different risk.
Location and travel also matter. Remote sites, international travel and periods on site are often reflected in allowances rather than base salary, so compare total packages, not headline figures.
Look at base salary, bonus and how it is earned, pension, any long term incentive tied to project milestones, car or travel allowance, notice period and whether overtime or on call duty is expected around commissioning. A slightly lower base with a milestone bonus you can realistically earn can be worth more.

Because we only show ranges we can source and date. Where we have none for your discipline, level and country, we say so rather than estimate.
In our assessment it often strengthens a candidate's position because fewer people have it. We do not publish a percentage because we cannot evidence one.
